Colonial Footprints in Bremen

Street name

Windhukstraße

Schwachhausen

The street recalls Windhoek, the centre of German colonial rule in German South-West Africa. Between 1904 and 1908, German troops committed the genocide of the Ovaherero and Nama in this colony. The street name thus stands for a history of violence that remains barely addressed to this day.
